The Seeress
The Seeress is from the Nordic creation story. It is narrated by The Seeress who has been woken from her grave by Odin, the great Sky God, who wishes to know about the creation and destruction of the world. This is Michelle's take on the creation part of the story. It begins with the tree of life ( Yggdrysil ) and the three Norns, three women who represent Mother Earth and her gift of Time: Urd - what has been; Verdandi - what is becoming; Skuld - what might be. These women tend the tree of life, shaping the runes of knowledge and communication, and governing the fate of humans. The piece ends with a warning to Odin that is also a warning to all of us now: “Do you understand yet, or what more?” Just as Odin perceived that the world as he knew it would end, so are we now at that point as we have breached the tipping point with overshoot, resulting in climate change and mass extinction. The video was filmed at an old stand of Californian Redwoods, capturing more a northern energy. But there is also Australian rainforest visible, so a perfect melding of Michelle's worlds.
